The UK Earth system modelling (UKESM) group develops advanced Earth System Models to provide robust science knowledge in support of UK and international efforts to combat climate change.

A brief introduction to climate change, some of the risks that arise from a changing climate, and solutions that anyone can take to reduce the impact of climate change. Followed by a general introduction to what the Earth system is, why it is important and how we model it using mathematics and supercomputers.

Future projections made with the UK Earth System Models provide data and knowledge to support planning around climate change impacts, adaptation and mitigation. We work with national, local and international policymakers and through international assessments to provide the latest understanding of the Earth system.

Find out more about the science behind UKESM, our achievements and how we are developing our Earth system models to add more capability. European collaboration and funding plays a key role in how we develop and use the models.
